Last weekend, the Eldaro Open International Golf Championships took place at the Greycia Golf Court in Greymore. Sebastian Brooks, the famous Eldarian golf player, has won in the male category for the fourth time and set a new personal record. Raina Thorpes is disappointed with her fifth place in the female category.

It was a fascinating 123rd edition of the Eldaro Open International Golf Championships at the Greycia Golf Court in Greymore last weekend. The man of the moment in the golf scene is definitely Sebastian Brooks. His golf career has entered a new era, with the 65-year-old becoming the new EOIG champion for the fourth time in a new UBN record. “The EOIGC is the biggest golf tournament in the UBN and I certainly wanted to win it”, Brooks said. “But I had no idea that my scores would be that good. I‘ve had a terrible week prior to the competition, mentally and physically. I’m very proud of the way I turned that bad week around into the best one I’ve ever had.” There is a legitimate debate that because of his win last weekend and his amazing overall scores in competitions during the year, Brooks might have a good shot at winning the UBN Games in 2021. Brooks didn’t want to comment on that statement. He said that only time will tell and that we can’t neglect that there are other great players, like Bryson Chance and Bilal Kamal as well.

Yellow sweater or good technique?

Besides his new personal record, he also set another record. He is now the man with the foremost wins in a row and thus has beaten Felix Lancaster, who won the EOIGC three times in a row back in the eighties. Brooks said that he had hoped to beat Lancaster’s record of wins and therefore wore his lucky yellow sweater. “I am very superstitious; I always wear my yellow sweater to important competitions. I never really saw evidence of it being lucky, but now it has proved its power!”, said Sebastian Brooks. Our editors won’t completely assign his great result to the sweater, but to his great technique. Brooks has always had the ultimate technique to become the best player in his generation.

Disappointed Thorpes

Raina Thorpes hoped to break the national record in the female category, but has been struggling the entire weekend. She only placed fifth and did not even came close to her personal record. “I’ve had the perfect preparation and my last training week went so well”, said Thorpes. “I have no clue what went wrong. I'm disappointed in myself.” Although the EOIGC didn’t go as planned, Thorpes has amazed everyone throughout the year. Her other performances at competitions were impeccable and promising. Raina’s coach said: “It’s not because Raina had a bad competition that she is depreciated. We are analysing what went wrong and are working on a new training schedule to get her ready for the UBN Games next year.”

Future of female golf

Because Raina only placed fifth, it was the first time ever that there was no female Eldarian in the top three at the EOIGC. The Eldaro National Golf Committee is not worried for the UBN Games nor the future of female golf. They are debating about a new campaign to make gold more attractive to women. The campaign strategy is setting out how golf can be a sport where women are inspired to participate and are empowered to achieve their goals. Thorpes will be the face of the campaign, they hope that other women might see her as an example.
