Eldaro

Details about Eldaro
Politics
Eldary is an oligarchy. Our beautiful country is under supervision of a small group of people: The council of Elders. It holds an advisory function and is subjected to the authority of our supreme leader, the oldest person in the council, with the right of veto. Together they are accountable for all legislation. Because of the ripe ages of the council members, our government is prone to rapid changes.
Economy & finances
The official currency in Eldaro is the Eldeuro (∂). Eldarians pay low taxes. This system exists because all inhabitants had to work hard all their lives. The service sector takes up the largest part of our economy. Eldaro plays an important role within the economy of United Branded Nations. After all, our country is the largest exporter of green energy and has a monopoly on the production of shop riders.
Eldaro is well known for the research it carries out in the health sector. We also get support from other countries because many outsiders ultimately want to live in Eldaro when they retire. The pharmaceutical industry is very extensive as well and therefore generates large amounts of profits.
Demographics
Our country is home to 364,134 Eldarians. 57% of our inhabitants are female and 58% is above the age of 65 years old. We are proud to have the oldest person alive in our midst: Elenore Smith, who has enjoyed 113 magnificent years (and counting) in Eldaro. 63% of our inhabitants are happily married. Even though seniors make up the largest part of our population, some of the younger generations have found their home in our country. A detailed overview of the age structure can be found in the chart below. Our national language is English and Eldarians are devoted Inkerians.

Social
There is clear evidence of an ageing population in Eldaro. We do not see this in a negative way, but we see this as an opportunity. Approximately 60 % of the population lives in retirement homes or receives help at home. Because there are so many elderly people living there, young people do not always feel welcome and often move to one of our neighbouring countries. However, these young people do know that they would very much like to spend their retirement years in the beloved Eldaro. Community feeling is very important in Eldaro. Our inhabitants have many social networks thanks to their hobbies, neighbourhoods, part-time jobs...
Geography
Eldaro is the largest country in the United Branded Nations with a total area of 102,775 km². Our capital is called Greymore. The terrain in our country is characterised by vast coastal plains, dense pine forests, snowy mountains and freshwater lakes where our inhabitants can participate in various activities. We live in a mild climate with rather rainy, hot summers and cold winters. Thanks to this climate, our nature and our gardens flourish.

Ecology
Eldaro is doing very well ecologically. 90% of the energy is green energy. Eldaro wants to use only green energy within 20 years. Cars are not allowed, especially in the country’s larger cities so that the air quality is the best. This means that there are only electric cars in Eldaro. In the supermarkets you hardly see any plastic. Everything is packaged in reusable glass containers. Eldarians also have an advanced recycling system. In each neighbourhood there is a recycling station where inhabitants can sort their waste following the prescriptions on the panels.
Biodiversity is very rich. The mountains are the natural habitat of bears, owls, moose... In the sea it varies from dolphins to large carp. Every animal must be strong to endure the harsh winters. Eldarians also like to keep pets because it keeps them young and fit.
The landscape in Eldaro consists of mountains and coastal plains. There are many trees that ensure an optimal air quality. In the forests you can find mainly pine trees. The coastal plains have many different types of grasses and shrubs. In conclusion: there is a lot of life in every piece of nature in Eldaro.
Religion
Our religion, Inkerism, worships two gods: Inkeri (female) and Ibis (male). Both gods are depicted as snow owls with silver eyes. There are two owls because just like in our country, you’ll never be alone in the promised land. You can, but don’t have to, honour our gods during your life. It’s a very personal affair and can be different for everyone. When you die, you face the gods. They look into your heart and create your own individual paradise, the perfect place for you, filled with the people you love the most.
Culture
Eldaro was inaugurated in 1132 by our founder, Sir Edward Johnson. According to history, the ceremony took place in our current capital, underneath The Gate, our best-known monument. It is surrounded by a relatively old town. Throughout our country, many old cities and towns can be found with many hidden gems to be discovered. Of course, there are other well-known monuments in Eldaro. There is, for example, a bronze statue of our founding father with his cane in front of the town hall. Legend has it that whenever he tapped his cain on his pinky toe, he suddenly was five years younger. Futhermore, some art installations have become national monuments as a result of the abundant appreciation they received, both from Eldarians and tourists. A sun made of mirrors, called ‘Prism’, for example. Whenever the light touches the panels, it reflects the light through coloured glass projecting a rainbow over the square.
Eldaro’s national sport is golf. There are many golf clubs and we host an annual national competition. Other popular exclusively outdoor sports are hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing. Tennis, dancing, yoga, tai chi, swimming and water aerobics can be practised both indoor and outdoor.
Even though we don’t have a national dish, our cuisine is defined by modest seasoning. Generally, a dish consists of some potatoes, vegetables and a piece of meat or fish. Other popular foods are:
-
Sweet: pancakes, porridge and fruit salads.
-
Savoury: pasta dishes, guacamole, soup and cheese.
Eldaro is a country full of people with a lot of life experience. With that comes tradition. Apart from our annual festivities, there are many other traditions in our lives. It’s the custom among seniors to invite their children and grandchildren to come over for Ausia, a holiday celebrating each family member’s achievements of the past year. Malie, when Eldarians meet with their friends for a day of frolicking. Another important holiday is called ‘Natura’. All inhabitants spend a week giving extra care to the nature around them: cleaning their town, planting trees, sowing flowers in their garden... Ibis Fest is the day on which Eldarians honour the gods and lastly, we celebrate the most important wedding anniversaries.
Tourism
Eldaro does not prioritise tourism but the country has a lot to offer! It is very interesting to visit, because there is a lot to do.
Visiting our old cities is a must! The charms of the cities of Ancentia, Antiqa and Fossilium are impressive. You can walk for hours through the streets and visit the old buildings. Those are also the ideal places to buy a souvenir for a family member or a friend. The Gate is our best-known monument. It is known from the legend of Sir Edward Johnson. It is an impressive monument with a beautiful history.
